(1)This episode got me thinking...I too love Jane Austen and have read all of the novels but have no desire to read her juvenalia, etc. But, there are some authors that I am complete in intentionally ....at least in English translation. For example, Ayelet Gundar-Goshen, Eshkol Nevo, A.B. Yehoshua...all translated from Hebrew. I have no interest in reading letters, etc. There are probably other authors that am probably unintentionally almost a completist, e.g. Jorge Amado, Marquez, Francine Prose (2) After Christopher Beha's article and your episode, I really wanted to tackle Jon Fosse's Septology but was intimidated. I am Jewish and feared that I just wouldn't get it/him. I happen to have a brilliant Catholic son-in-law and was talking to his wonderful friend/priest about books and he said he was also intimidated. Anyway we put together a small group, me, my son, my daughter (all Jewish) , my SIL, Father A and two colleagues/friends of his (all Catholic) we meet this weekend to discuss Parts I and II. So excited. (3) Abandoned the Savage Detectives read-a-long wasn't enjoying the book and there is just too much else to read.
